The Purple Lions
The ladies of Rugby Club Eindhoven, Eindhovense Studenten Rugbyclub The Elephants and Rugbyclub Wageningen together form one team: The Purple Lions. We train together twice a week and play matches on Sundays. We are a relatively young team with many players between the ages of 17 and 30.
RCE and The Elephants have been playing in this formation for six years, but since last season RC Wageningen also plays. We play in the second division, playing about 16 games a year. On Tuesday and Thursday evenings we train with the whole team, where our coach Aïsha and several guest coaches and injured players help to make our rugby skills, fitness, strength and cooperation as a team even better.
We are not only strong together in the scrum and on the field, but also apart from that. After matches and trainings we can often be found in the clubhouse to finish the match or training. Several committees are active to organize the annual trip abroad, game and drinks nights. After the regular season we also annually show our (beach) rugby and party skills at various tournaments.
The good ties between the Eindhoven rugby players and RC Wageningen have existed for a very long time. For example, did you know that The Elephants against RC Wageningen was the first women’s rugby match in the Netherlands? Almost more than 50 years ago!
